Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate USA at Bay Ridge Jewish Center

There are many paths one can follow to learn self-defense.  With the rise of anti-Semitism and division in our ever-changing world one needs to feel safe and confident they can defend themselves.

Why traditional karate?

Karate has been proven to work for over 5oo years:

The art of Karate (kara - Chinese/empty,  te - hand) emerged over 500 years ago in the Ryukyu Islands located in the East China Sea. The need for self-defense arose from the banning of weapons placed by successive rulers, starting with King Hashi of the First Sho Dynasty in the 1420’s and continuing with King Sho-En, Second Okinawan Sho Dynasty in 1469.

Why Bay Ridge Jewish Center?

Bay Ridge Jewish Center affirms the equality and dignity of all people.  We stand with our neighbors regardless of religion, immigration status, race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.

What will training Shorin – Ryu karate do for you?

Our goal is to develop students to their maximum potential in body, mind and spirit; through courtesy, propriety, self-discipline and the ecstasy of hard work fostered by our dojo – the sacred training halls – of Shorin-Ryu Karate USA. Classes will reume in September.
